Allocation of CIMED Junior and Senior grants 2017-21

Center for Innovative Medicine (CIMED) at Karolinska Institutet (KI) South Campus, supported by the Stockholm County Council (SCC), announced February 1st, 2016 the second round of grants within medical research with a call for Junior and Senior Investigator grants in basic, translational or clinical research.

The overall quality of the applications received was very high, both for Junior and Senior Investigator grants. The grant applications underwent external review by an international expert panel* and the KI/SCC management group has now taken the decision regarding allocation of the grants based on the suggestion from the CIMED board.

CIMED Junior Investigator grants

Out of a total of 52 applications the following 6 applicants are selected for CIMED Junior Investigator grants in basic, translational or clinical research. In alphabetical order:

JAAN-OLLE ANDRESSOO

Project title: Gene knock-up via 3’UTR targeting to treat Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease” (3 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

NIKLAS BJÖRKSTRÖM

Project title: Liver-resident human natural killer cells in health and disease” (2 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

MARIE CARLÉN

Project title: Control of attention – the role of the cholinergic system” (2 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

MARIANNE FARNEBO 

Project title: RNA-guided repair of DNA double-strand breaks” (2 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

FREDRIK LANNER

Project title: Pluripotency, Embryonic Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine” (2 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

ANNA RISING

Project title: Spider silk biology for biomedical applications” (2 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

CIMED Senior Investigator grants

Out of a total of 26 applications the following 3 applicants are selected for CIMED Senior Investigator grants in basic, translational or clinical research. In alphabetical order:

Project title: “Immunoglobulin gene diversification: a model system for studying DNA editing and repair in human lymphocytes, with relevance of immunodeficiency and cancer” (3 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

ECKARDT TREUTER

Project title: “Epigenomic mechanisms underlying metaflammation” (3 million SEK/ year for 5 years)

CAMILLA SJÖGREN

Project title: “Study of DNA topology-dependent silencing of Hepatitis B virus” (3 million SEK/ year for 5 years)
